Educational Advocacy
If you have a son or daughter with special needs, your child requires individualized care due to health, physical, intellectual or emotional concerns.
As the parent or guardian of such a child you are faced with obtaining the accurate information and appropriate services which will ensure that your child receives the best care and education available.
Educational Advocacy provides parents with assistance and advisement in the navigation of the special education process. Helping parents use IDEA, 504 and ADA to obtain educational benefits and academic success for their child is THE goal.
Educational Advocacy Services offered by Kid Coach:
- Assist in the identification of available services for the child.
- Review and organize documentation materials while identifying areas in need of further exploration.
- Support with written requests for special education services.
- Referrals for educational and cognitive assessment.
- Referrals for speech and language assessments.
- Work with child study/ IEP teams to develop appropriate interventions, accommodations and goals for special needs students in school settings.
- Long term academic planning for special needs trust development
- Consultations and school and community observations.
- Educational case management to assure implementation and coordination of services.
- Attendance at Diagnostic Eligibility Conferences and IEP meetings
- Assist parents and school personnel in the development of Behavior Intervention Plans to increase student success.
- School reintegration support.
- Referrals to community resources.
- Liaison for parents to utilize before seeking legal action against a school district. (In 80% of the cases, a knowledgeable advocate can assist in the resolution of an impasse and facilitate obtaining appropriate services and accommodations.)
- Teach parents "self-advocacy" skills.
